The bed in the master bedroom in Umah Raja is fit for a king. A four poster bed with pillars made of massive trunks of ironwood, each one at least half a meter in diameter and crossbeams that are structurally sound but so demolished by past termite attacks that they resemble coral. Things age and acquire patina with surprising velocity in the tropics, and you often estimate objects much older than they actually are, but this bed is at least 70 years old. Originally it was used outside as a family balé, the traditional Balinese pavillion. We have reserved the finest fabrics of the hotel for this magnificent piece of furniture.
